The project was funded by the World Bank and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations – FAO. The YFASD was assigned by FAO to produce 4,800 modern Yemeni beehive, Yemeni modified beehive (16 frames) and 800 Langstroth beehive. The beehives were produced and distributed as follows:
1. 800 Langstroth beehives were distributed in Nisab and Rawda districts (Shabwa governorate).
2. 800 modern Yemeni beehives were distributed in Rosod and Ahwar districts - Abyan governorate.
3. 800 beehives of the modern Yemeni beehive were distributed in the districts of Al-Ma`fer and Maqbanah - Taiz governorate.
4. 800 beehives were distributed in the districts of Al-Zaydiyah and Al-Sokhnah - Al-Hudaydah Governorate.
5. 1600 beehives were distributed in Radfan and Al Melah districts - Lahj governorate.
6. 800 cells were distributed in Koidenah district - Hajjah Governorate.
The number of beneficiaries from the project is 700 persons, within the targeted districts. Beekeeping tools and other nutrition materials was also distributed to whole beneficiaries. The project also included training program on the modern beekeeping techniques.
