The moving sand dunes in the coastal strip located between Aden and Abyan cities lead to burying of the only land road that connects Aden city with Abyan and other eastern governorates. This causes horrific roads accidents every week.
According to statistics issued by the Traffic Police in Aden governorate, there are more than 150 people who die and more than 300 injured annually.
In addition, financial losses are estimated annually by about $2M.
The government also incurs significant expenditure to remove sand dunes from the road.
Therefore, the YFASD took the initiative to prepare a project plan for afforestation and sand dunes fixation along the road from Aden to Abyan, which is about 50 Km.
The first phase the project will cost about $6million.
